SAHCO Receives Safety Excellence Award at FAAN 2025 Safety Week

Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) PLC has been honored with the Safety Excellence Award at the 2025 Safety Week organized by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The award recognizes SAHCO’s remarkable commitment to safety excellence, adherence to global best practices, and consistent contribution to safe ground handling operations within Nigeria’s aviation sector. The recognition took place during the FAAN 2025 Safety Week, held at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The annual event, themed “Navigating Conflict for a Safer Aviation in Nigeria,” convened key industry stakeholders including airlines, regulatory agencies, ground handling companies, and safety professionals. The program focused on strategies for conflict management, the importance of a safety-driven culture, and the collective responsibility of all aviation stakeholders in building a resilient and secure air transport system.

Receiving the award on behalf of SAHCO, Vanessa Uansohia, Head, Corporate Communications expressed profound appreciation to FAAN for acknowledging SAHCO’s continuous efforts toward promoting safety and excellence. SAHCO Becomes The First Ground Handler to Win BA Bronse, Silver, Gold, And Platinum Awards.

Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) has made history by becoming the first ground handling company to win British Airways’ prestigious Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum awards in Nigeria. This remarkable achievement underscores SAHCO’s excellence in punctuality and safety performance at the Lagos station.

 The Platinum Award, recently conferred upon SAHCO, recognizes its outstanding performance in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific region. SAHCO secured this award after consistently winning the bronze, silver, and gold awards in each quarter of 2024. Notably, SAHCO remains the only ground handling company to have achieved these accolades since the inception of the British Airways flights to Nigeria.

Helen O’Connor, Regional General Manager for the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific at British Airways, commended SAHCO for its unwavering commitment to safety and operational efficiency. “The award is based on meeting or exceeding the adjusted door closure (aDC) target of 96% every month for four consecutive quarters, with no major safety events or repeat audit findings,” O’Connor stated. She further emphasized that SAHCO’s consistent excellence throughout the year is a testament to the company’s reliability and high operational standards.

In addition to this historic feat, SAHCO’s Abuja station also demonstrated outstanding performance, earning the Bronze Award in the third quarter of 2024. This landmark achievement further reinforces SAHCO’s position as a leader in the aviation ground handling industry, committed to delivering world-class services that meet and exceed international standards
